Does ‘Grass-fed’ Mean Anything on a Label?

It was a several years ago when Dr. Heather and I were part of a CSA (community supported agriculture) where we received fruits and vegetables every week from a farm. It was always a surprise when we opened up the box to see each week’s healthy food.

That same company also supplied grass-fed beef. At the time all I thought was ‘grass-fed’ means quality beef. We later learned otherwise. As we began to educate ourselves, we learned that when cows are fed grains, the Omega 6 to Omega 3 ratio changes from a 2:1 ratio closer to a 20:1 ratio. This ratio is critical to health! This ratio dictates whether someone gets a degenerative disease or not! The ‘healthy’ beef we thought we were getting from this farmer actually came from cows that were fattened on grains for a few months before processing.

New information indicates that vitamin K2 is far more important than people realize. Scientists say it may be as important to our general health as vitamin D. Vitamin K2 and CLA, both super important vitamins, drop significantly in value when cows are fed grains. However, beef retains its high concentration of these vitamins when cattle are fed NO grains in their processing.

The laws for grass-fed beef are sketchy at best. The laws to label beef grass-fed means that the cows have to consume only 30% of their diet from grass during the grazing period and during what they call the finishing period (90-120 days before processing). They don’t even have to have any grass, but just have “access” to a pasture! As usual, it is BUYER BEWARE!

Is Your Sleep Position Wreaking Havoc on Your Body?

It is important to understand the significance of how much you sleep, the condition of your mattress and pillow, and in what position you sleep in.  This handout focuses on the position that you sleep in and the role of your pillow.  The following are the three basic positions of sleeping: on your stomach, on your back, and on your side.

Sleeping on your stomach can be very detrimental to your spine and is NOT recommended.  For example, turn your head to the left as far as it can go.  Now hold that position for 8 hours.  That is the same thing that happens when you lie on your stomach while sleeping.  This position is extremely hard on your neck and can hold you back in your progression through care.

The following are the recommended sleeping positions for a healthy night’s rest:   1) lying on your back 2) on your side.  If you sleep on your back, make certain that your pillow keeps your spine in line.  Your ear must be in line with your shoulder (as shown in picture below).

 

When sleeping on your side, make sure that your head is in line with your sternum (breastbone) and that your pillow is properly supporting your neck.  This allows your spine to stay in line (as shown in picture to right).

 

 

 

Avoid curling your head down towards your chest while sleeping.  Keep the upper torso of the body straight.  It’s fine to bring the knees up, just avoid tucking the chin down (as shown below).

Another important tip for sleeping on your side is to place a pillow in between your knees (as shown below).  This takes pressure off of the hip joints and prevents the top leg from twisting the pelvis and lower back area.

From the information above, it is obvious that your pillow needs to be the correct type for you!

Addicted to Bread or Pasta?

This is part 2 of a 3 part series to help replace negative habits of food and beverage choices with positive ones.

One of the keys to promoting health and vitality is to control and reduce inflammation in the body.  This is exactly where grains and pasta can have a detrimental health effect on the body.

There are two different nutrition plans, which can be found in the Maximized Living Nutrition Plan book.  One is referred to as the “Core” plan.  The core plan is the plan that at a bare minimum every single person on the planet needs to consume.  Certain grains are allowed on the core plan such as whole grains and sprouted grains.

The other health plan is the Advanced (healing) plan.  This is specifically for people with acute and chronic health conditions, including, but not limited to ADHD, diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, pain in the body, and many inflammatory conditions.  The big take away about the Advanced (healing) plan is that all sugar must be cut out and everything that turns to sugar.

We are addicted to sugar in this society. American culture is to consume a lot of breads and pasta-like foods.  Grains and pasta fit into the category of sugar.  When you eat pizza or spaghetti, there are enzymes in your saliva that break the grains down into sugar within 4 seconds of it in your mouth.

Inflammation, sickness, cancer and disease feed on sugar.  Meaning the more sugar you consume the better environment you create in your body for disease, illness and inflammation.  Eliminating inflammation is one the keys in preventing and battling disease in this country.

If you consume breads, grains or pasta, chances are your body is a sugar burner rather than a fat burner.  One of the keys to converting your body into a fat burning machine is to completely eliminate all things that are sugar and that turn to sugar, such as breads, grains and pasta.

The most effective method is to go cold turkey with no sugar.  The first 10-14 days are usually rough because your body will be not getting the sugar it is used to.  Once you make it to week number 3 the craving will disappear. When the craving has subsided you know your body is now burning fat rather than sugar.

If you cheat in the first 2 weeks, it will take longer to convert over.  Be strong for 2 weeks and I promise you that you will be not only feeling better and have more energy, but that inflammation will decrease in the body!

Instead of breads and grains, replace with…

  • Like sandwiches? Use vegetables as wraps instead
  • Collard green wraps are a great replacement to the typical sandwich or tortilla shell
  • Romaine Lettuce leaves work great to wrap a healthy beef hot dog or chicken brat
    (healthy means not Oscar Meyer and contains no nitrates)
  • If you are eating out at a restaurant order your food containing no bun, tell the waiter or waitress to put the burger or piece of chicken on some lettuce and to hold the bun.  There are even restaurants that will wrap your typical burger in lettuce rather than putting it in a bun.

Instead of pasta and noodles, replace with…

Great substitute for Rice…

  • Grate Cauliflower and steam it (looks like rice)

Addicted to Soda or Coffee?

This is a 3 part series to help replace negative habits of food and beverage choices with positive ones.

Soda and Coffee are not healthy beverages to consume.  Both of these beverages on a pH scale are acidic.  Disease exists in a more acidic environment; health is sustained in a more alkaline environment.  Soda also has high amounts of sugar and if you consume diet, that’s even worse!  Diet sugars are toxic to the body and cause someone to gain even more weight and bread more sickness!

Coffee is a diuretic (which means it dehydrates you with each cup) and more importantly it lowers your body’s level of glutathione when consumed orally.  Glutathione is the strongest antioxidant that the body naturally produces.  More importantly it is the key ingredient that enables your body to detoxify the toxins that have built up in your body and get rid of the toxins you are exposed to on the daily basis.

If you have been consuming one or both of these it can be a challenge to stop cold turkey.  What typically happens when someone stops drinking soda, coffee, smoking, etc., if that void is not replaced with a healthy alternative or habit, the void gets filled back with the original negative health habit.

Instead of Soda…
1)   Water (filtered, ionized and alkaline water is best)

2)   Carbonated Lemonade
Mineral water or Sparkling water (provides natural carbonation)
Lemon juice (if from a bottle, read the label)
Stevia.  Stevia is a herb that has a sugar flavor but is not sugar and is not a unhealthy sugar substitute such as the yellow, blue or red sugar packets.  Stevia is also alkalizing.  (Read the label and some brands have bad flavor; Stevita Stevia is a preferred brand.)

3)   Dynamic Greens drink
Add water with a scoop of dynamic greens (multiple flavors)

4)   Flavored water
Add a slice of lemon or lime
Or get creative by putting a few slices of cucumber in the water

5)   Coconut water (healthy beverage that is very hydrating)

Instead of Coffee…
1)   Herbal Tea

2)   Green Tea

3)   Hot Water with a scoop of Chocolate Dynamic Greens with a small amount of stevia (tastes just like hot chocolate, but healthy)

4)   Another hot chocolate alternative
Chocolate Dynamic Greens, coconut milk and egg protein
It’s always a good idea to avoid decaffeinated coffee and teas.  Although the decaffeination processes vary, common processing using chemicals such as Methylene Chloride or Ethyl Acetate to remove the caffeine.

Can eating MORE of THIS FOOD help you lose weight?

Protein is commonly known for building and repairing tissues in the body. Unlike carbohydrates and fats, the body does not store protein. Therefore, it is important to get enough of it in your diet. Protein is part of every cell, organ, and tissue in the body. Fortunately, there are many viable options when it comes to protein. Autism & Vaccine Researcher Indicted for Fraud & Money-Laundering

SafeMinds demands long-overdue independent review of vaccine/autism research for data manipulation and conflicts of interest. Vaccine safety remains questionable.

Poul Thorsen, the principal coordinator of multiple studies funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) used to deny a vaccine/autism link was indicted on April 13th on 13 counts of fraud and 9 counts of money-laundering. The charges relate to funding for work he conducted for the CDC, which claimed to disprove associations between the mercury-based vaccine preservative, thimerosal, and increased rates of autism.

SafeMinds first voiced concerns in 2003 regarding a series of epidemiology studies out of Denmark and under the jurisdiction of Thorsen that provided the basis for the Institute of Medicine’s claim that there was no association between thimerosal and autism. That claim has been responsible for the continued unsafe use of mercury in influenza vaccines in the United States and infant vaccines around the world.

“The quality of this epidemiological research has always been questionable,” states Sallie Bernard, SafeMinds president. “Many biological studies support a link between mercury and autism, but these Danish studies have been used to suppress further research into thimerosal. With clear evidence of Dr. Thorsen’s lack of ethics, it is imperative to reopen this investigation.” From August to October of 2003, three articles on the autism-mercury controversy were published in close succession, all of which used data from a Danish registry for psychiatric research to assess the relationship between autism trends and the use of thimerosal. SafeMinds accessed the registry at the time and reported that a large percentage of diagnosed autism cases are lost from the Danish registry each year and that most of those lost cases were older children.

Since the studies were based on finding fewer older thimerosal-exposed children than younger unexposed children, the validity of their conclusion exonerating thimerosal in autism was questionable and likely a result of missing records rather than true lower incidence rates among the exposed group.

In addition, internal emails obtained via FOIA document discussion between the Danish researchers and Thornsen which acknowledge that the studies did not include the latest data from 2001 where the incidence and prevalence of autism was declining which would be supportive of a vaccine connection.

The emails also include requests from Thornsen to CDC asking that the agency write letters to the journal Pediatrics encouraging them to publish the research after it had been rejected by other journals.

A top CDC official complied with the request sending a letter to the editor of the journal supporting the publication of the study which they called a “strong piece of evidence that thimerosal is not linked to autism.” As fraud charges regarding Thorsen surface, and as we believe the registry was unreliable, SafeMinds is calling for an independent federal investigation of these studies for data manipulation and scientific misconduct. Vaccines are one of the most heated topics out there today.  It’s important to become educated and informed and always remember to Follow the money!

A major cause of the Roman Empire’s decline, after six centuries of world dominance was its replacement of stone aqueducts by lead pipes for the transport and supply of drinking water. Roman engineers, the best in the world, turned their fellow citizens into neurological cripples.

Is that same thing happening in America today with the vaccination schedule?

Maximum Alkalization

Understanding the importance of alkalizing the body all goes back to chemistry.  The human body needs to maintain a pH of 7.365 in the blood at all times in order for survival.  The pH scale ranges from 0-14.   The typical American lifestyle is very acidic, which is extremely harmful to the body and because of this the body uses alkaline substances that are present in the body to balance the pH of the blood.  For example, the body will take calcium (an alkaline substance) from the bones (causing osteoporosis) to maintain healthy pH balance of the blood.

Increased Risk of Stroke & Carcinogens in this Beverage?

If you need anymore reasons to not pick a can of soda up, whether diet or regular this should solidify that decision.

According to the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI), a public health non-profit, the “caramel coloring” used in Coca-Cola, Pepsi, and other foods is contaminated with two cancer-causing chemicals and should be banned.

In contrast to the caramel one might make at home by melting sugar in a saucepan, the artificial brown coloring in colas and some other products is made by reacting sugars with ammonia and sulfites under high pressure and temperatures. Chemical reactions result in the formation of 2-methylimidazole and 4‑methylimidazole, which in government studies caused lung, liver, and thyroid cancer and leukemia in laboratory mice and rats.

Chemicals that cause cancer in animals are considered to pose cancer threats to humans.

“Carcinogenic colorings have no place in the food supply, especially considering that their only function is a cosmetic one,” said CSPI executive director, Michael F. Jacobson. “The FDA should act quickly to revoke its approval of caramel colorings made with ammonia.”

Federal regulations distinguish among four types of caramel coloring, two of which are produced with ammonia and two which aren’t. CSPI wants the FDA to prohibit the two made with ammonia. One ammonia-based type is frequently used in colas and other dark soft drinks and is known as Caramel IV, or ammonia sulfite process caramel. Caramel III, which is produced with ammonia but not sulfites, is sometimes used in beer, soy sauce, and other foods.

With research already making claims that artificial sweeteners cause cancer and is linked to metabolic syndrome.  More research suggests that you can put early death and disease into a small 12 oz can.

And at the beginning of February this year presented at the American Stroke Association’s international conference new research led by scientists at Columbia University and the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine suggests that diet soda might increase a person’s risk of developing vascular health problems — those related to blood vessels — and stroke.

Using data collected from a nine-year analysis of approximately 2,500 people over the age of 40, scientists found a relationship between diet soda consumption and vascular problems.

According to the research, subjects who consumed one or more diet sodas on a daily basis had a 61 percent greater risk of experiencing vascular events than their soda-less counterparts.

Bottom Line: Spend your money on health and not on an acidic toxic can of soda!

Inversion Table & Decompression Therapy Bad?

I cannot count the number of times that I have been asked about inversion tables and decompression therapy in the last couple of weeks.

Short answer:
No Good.

Long answer:
The spine does well with distractive forces, HOWEVER for only short periods of time. There is a process called ligamentous creep, in which the ligaments holding the spine deform after being applied a distractive force over a long period of time.

Can I use my inversion table if I have one?
Yes, but only use it for a maximum of 3 minutes at a time. Anything longer will create an unstable spine when you stand back up and create new problems.

What is DRX9000 technology?
It’s an expensive decompression therapy machine, which basically long axis distracts your body for 30 minutes a treatment. The cost is only $5,000-$6,000 for a package of 24 treatment sessions on average!!

It’s Time to STOP Consuming Soy!

Soy burgers, soy cheese, soy ice cream, soy baby formula, soybean oil, tofu all the way to soy milk, soy has taken over in America with a reputation for being all natural and good for you. About 74 percent of U.S. consumers now believe soy products are healthy. Although soybeans are considered a vegetable, that alone does not make it necessarily healthy. It is interesting to note that soybeans were not listed as a food in the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) handbook in 1913, but as an industrial product.

In 2009, the soybean industry was a $6.8 billion dollar industry! The marketing for soy has been aimed primarily at the health benefits of the isoflavones it contains, which is one of the phytochemicals in soybeans.1 Isoflavones are the compounds which are being studied in relation to the relief of certain menopausal symptoms, cancer prevention, slowing or reversing osteoporosis and reducing the risk of heart disease. The marketing and research has helped soymilk alone go from a $2 million dollar product in 1980 to $300 million dollar product in 2001!2

However, new research and studies have raised very important questions over the health benefits of soy. The core of their concerns rests with the chemical makeup of the soybean. Soybeans contain a natural chemical that mimics estrogen, the female hormone. Studies have shown that this chemical might increase the risk of breast cancer in some women, affect brain function in men and lead to hidden developmental ab-normalities in infants.

Jill Schneider is an associate professor of biological sciences at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and through her extensive research has discovered that a component of soy beans – isoflavones – significantly accelerated the onset of puberty in the rodents.3

She points out that many babies who are allergic to cow’s milk are fed soy-based formulas, which contain isoflavones. Isoflavones, she says, can act like estrogen, a natural hormone important in the development of both male and female humans and a baby fed soy will receive, through the phytoestrogens, the equivalent of approximately 5 birth control pills per day!4

Besides soy mimicking estrogen in the body it also contains a dangerous substance called phytic acid (or also referred to as phytates). This substance is present in the bran or hulls of all seeds and legumes, but none have the high level of phytates which soybeans do. Phytic acid blocks the body’s uptake of essential minerals like magnesium, calcium, iron and especially zinc. Additionally, soybeans are highly resistant to phytate-reducing techniques, such as long, slow cooking.

In addition, soybeans also contain potent enzyme-inhibitors, which hinder protein digestion. These inhibitors specifically block uptake of trypsin and other enzymes. Trypsin and the other enzymes are needed for protein digestion and without them can cause serious gastric distress and can lead to chronic deficiencies in amino acid uptake.  Soybeans also contain hemagglutinin, a clot-promoting substance which causes red blood cells to clump together and inhibits oxygen take-up and growth. Hemagglutinin and trypsin inhibitors are both “growth depressant” substances. Although the act of fermenting soybeans does de-activate both hemagglutinin and trypsin inhibitors, cooking and precipitation do not.5

It is clear that soy is not suitable for human consumption unless it has gone through a rigorous fermentation process. The fermentation process reduces the anti-nutrient and phytate levels. Examples of fermented soybeans are the following: tempeh, miso and natto and soybean sprouts. Nato you will typically not find in America.

If that’s not enough there are more reasons to stay away from soy! A very large percentage of soy – over 90% – is genetically modified and it also has one of the highest percentages contamination by pesticides of any of the foods we eat.

How is Soy Protein Isolate (SPI) Made?

SPI is not natural and is not something that can be created in one’s kitchen. SPI can commonly be found in baby formula.

The process begins in industrial factories where soybeans are mixed in different chemicals. Soybeans are mixed with an alkaline solution first to remove fiber, then precipitated and separated using an acid wash and, finally, neutralized in an alkaline solution.

During the acid washing, the soybeans are in aluminum tanks, which because of the acid leaches high levels of aluminum into the SPI. That is why soy-based formulas have over 10 times the amount of aluminum than conventional breast milk formulas.

After that the remaining curds are spray-dried at high temperatures to the high-protein powder. During the spray-drying of the soybeans a toxin is formed called “lysinoalanine.” Nitrites, which are cancer causing agents (carcinogens), are also formed during spraying.6

After all that processing the remaining product typically has a strong bean taste and in order to mask this taste a large amount of artificial flavorings are added, including MSG.7

Soy protein isolate is used in commercial baked goods, fast food, diet beverages and school lunch programs. They are heavily promoted in 3rd world countries and form the basis of many food giveaway programs.

Instead of the Flu Shot…

This the first time in 4 months to not see signs that say flu shots available here!  Sadly the reason is from the recent 2 feet of snow in less than 2 days.  The flu season is big business for the pharmaceutical companies. When you understand the lack of protection the flu shot actually offers, it’s no wonder majority of doctors and nurses do NOT get the flu shot, even though they administer it.

Each flu shot contains only 3 strains of the flu virus while there are over 10,000 different existing strains, which continually mutate.  That’s why researchers have never guessed the correct strains to put in the shot for each flu season.  And don’t forget to mention the high amount of toxicity that’s in each flu shot.

Steps to Improve Sleep

Not sleeping can impact not only your night, but also the rest of the day.  Here are several steps that you can implement to help improve your sleep.

Establish a routine – The routine not only includes going to bed or laying down in bed the same time every night, but also includes everything leading up to bedtime (brushing your teeth, washing your face, drinking some water, praying…etc.)  Reading before bed can be very helpful.

Get to bed early – Getting ready for bed and lying down should be done before 11pm at the latest.

Avoid alcohol – Although alcohol will make people drowsy, the effect is short lived and people will often wake up several hours later, unable to fall back asleep. Alcohol will also keep you from falling into the deeper stages of sleep, where the body does most of its healing.

Get Fit – Exercising creates more energy during the day and better sleep at night.

Avoid stimulating things – Television is a stimulant.  Avoid watching television in the bedroom and right before bed.  Avoid eating or drinking anything with caffeine in it after the lunch hours such as chocolate, coffee or soda.

Create a completely dark room – This is especially important if you work 3rd shift or live in the city where there are lights on outside of your bedroom throughout the night hours.  Purchase BLACKOUT shades, blinds or curtains that block ALL the light out.  Remove any electronics from the bedroom that give off light (example is a stereo or alarm clock) or at least cover it up at night.  Closing your bedroom door if light comes through it, and even putting a towel along the base to prevent light from seeping in.  Avoid night lights of any kind.

Empty the Mind – If you are a person where thoughts race through your brain especially when you lay down at night, you need to empty the mind.  The best way seems to be by writing down what you are thinking about.  Create a to do list for the following day before you lay down into bed and keep a piece of paper and pen by your bed in case you need to write something down.

Bathe in Positive thoughts – Write affirmations and read them every night before bed to create a large pool of positive thoughts into your mind before bed.  An example of an affirmation is “I’m more relaxed than ever before because I choose peaceful loving thoughts and release my fears, my worries and my anxieties.”  Or saying the serenity prayer “God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; the courage to change the things that I can; and the wisdom to know the difference.”

Get the Temperature Right – Your body’s heat distribution system is strongly linked to sleep cycles. Even lying down increases sleepiness by redistributing heat in your body from the core to the periphery.  When you sleep, your body’s internal temperature actually drops to its lowest level, generally about four hours after you fall asleep. Scientists believe a cooler bedroom may therefore be most conducive to sleep, since it mimics your body’s natural temperature drop.  This is also why taking a warm bath 90 to 120 minutes before bedtime may also help you sleep; it increases your core body temperature, and when it abruptly drops when you get out of the bath, it signals your body that you are ready for sleep. Any temperature above 75 degrees Fahrenheit and below 54 degrees will interfere with your sleep and also wear socks to bed.

White Noise – If you sleep in an area where there is a lot of background noise during the night hours this is a must.  Using an air filter or fan works great to create a consistent background noise.  Some people have a hard time adjusting to white noise.

American Kids are Over-Medicated

Fully one quarter of American minors are on a “lifestyle medication” – a prescription drug that is taken regularly with no forseeable end in sight (as opposed to a temporary drug to address a specific illness).

According to the Wall Street Journal (December 28, 2010), nearly 92 million prescriptions were filled in 2009 which a) were for children and teens and b) were to address chronic conditions.

What chronic conditions are plaguing our young people? In order from most common to least common medications actually dispensed:

  • Asthma (45 million prescriptions)
  • ADHD (24 million prescriptions)
  • Antidepressants (10 million prescriptions)
  • Antipsychotics (7 million prescriptions)
  • Antihypertensives (5 million prescriptions)
  • Sleep Aids (307 thousand prescriptions)
  • Non-insulin diabetes (424 thousand prescriptions)
  • Statins – high cholesterol (94 thousand prescriptions)

This doesn’t even include prescriptions that were never filled, nor the millions of uninsured/undoctored youth who may have conditions which require (or at least excuse) prescription medication. Nor does it include the millions of prescriptions for antibiotics, pain killers and other medications dispensed to kids which aren’t meant for constant use.

Interestingly, boys are much more highly medicated than girls in almost every category and age group.

The listed side effects alone are enough to make anyone shudder.

What is going on here?? Drug companies and their advertising at work? Doctors prescribing rather than probing? Teachers and parents seeking an easy solution for problems which – consider the idea – may not be bio-chemical in nature?

It’s a lot easier to prescribe a pill with study statistics and FDA approval behind it than to re-evaluate the lifestyles of our children and how we are meeting (or failing to meet) their needs. Giving kids “medicine” makes us feel like we are doing something – anything – to address the psychological, emotional, and ultimately physical problems from which our kids may (or may NOT) be genuinely suffering.

Back Away from the Diet Coke!

It is mind blowing to see so many people, even in the “health” spectrum, still drinking sodas (much less the diet varieties which use toxic, artificial sweeteners). I know many people think the diet versions will help them lose weight, but the statistics show that people actually GAIN weight from drinking diet sodas.

Here are a few reasons why sodas (especially diet ones) will absolutely not help you achieve your health goals:

  • pH of 2.5: Sodas are 50,000 times more acidic than neutral. It would require 30 glasses of clean water to balance out just ONE can of soda. Why is this important? All diseases (including cancer) thrive in an acidic environment.
  • High Fructose Corn Syrup: This highly processed sweetener significantly raises insulin levels and has been linked to Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolic Syndrome. Plus, the majority of HFCS is derived from genetically modified corn.  Recent studies show that 60% of HFCS contains mercury (which is the second most toxic substance on the planet).
  • Aspartame, Splenda: All artificial sweeteners are just that–Artificial. They are the result of a chemical process that produces dangerous neurotoxic compounds. Aspartame has been linked to brain tumors, migraines/headaches, epilepsy/seizures, depression and autoimmune diseases. Sucrolose (Splenda) falls into the same category. The company claims it is made from sugar, but they neglect to tell you they alter a sugar molecule and insert chlorine–a dangerous carcinogen (cancer causing agent).
  • Caffeine: Caffeine has a half-life of 6 hours, meaning that it will stay in your body for 12 hours before the effect wears off. Even if you think caffeine doesn’t affect you, it will still alter your sleep cycles and the quality of your sleep. Caffeine is also a diuretic–dehydrating you even though you believe you are ingesting liquids.

What Happens to Your Body Within an Hour of Drinking a Regular Coke?
Do you want to be healthy? Drinking soda is bad for your health in so many ways; science can’t even state all the consequences. Here’s what happens in your body when you assault it with a Coke:

Within the first 10 minutes, 10 teaspoons of sugar hit your system. This is 100 percent of your recommended daily intake, and the only reason you don’t vomit as a result of the overwhelming sweetness is because phosphoric acid cuts the flavor.

Within 20 minutes, your blood sugar spikes, and your liver responds to the resulting insulin burst by turning massive amounts of sugar into fat.

Within 40 minutes, caffeine absorption is complete; your pupils dilate, your blood pressure rises, and your livers dumps more sugar into your bloodstream.

Around 45 minutes, your body increases dopamine production, which stimulates the pleasure centers of your brain – a physically identical response to that of heroin, by the way.

After 60 minutes, you’ll start to have a sugar crash.

Action steps:
Stop drinking sodas (especially diet ones) immediately! Switch to water or green tea (which has far less caffeine, but with the added bonus of major antioxidants to keep you young and healthy).

Aspirin Should Not Be Routinely Used?

Most people have heard that an aspirin a day is good for the heart.  However, according to the British Medical Journal, aspirin “should not be routinely initiated” for the primary prevention of cardiovascular disease, and for patients already taking aspirin, its use should be reviewed.1

Research has shown that taking an aspirin a day in those without a history of heart disease increased the risk of heart disease by 60%.  Those with a history of heart disease had a 10-fold increase in the risk of congestive heart failure.2 If that’s not enough taking an aspirin a day also increases the risk of pancreatic cancer by 86 percent.3 The risk of breast cancer is increased by 50% for those taking an aspirin a day.4

According to the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), one of the most prestigious medical journals, they published that an aspirin a day increases the risk for a hemorrhagic stroke by 84%!5

Who told us that taking an aspirin a day was good for our health and heart?  Most would answer their doctor did.  Next question.  Who told your doctor?  The pharmaceutical companies!  Specifically Bayer!

For more than a decade, people have swallowed the pills every day, in the misguided belief that they were safeguarding their cardiac health.5

Some may want to argue the physiological response that aspirin thins the blood!  There is no argument, it does thin the blood.  The issue is that the body needs to maintain what is called homeostasis.  Homeostasis is the body’s ability to maintain internal equilibrium by adjusting its physiological processes.  If the blood is thinned artificially with an aspirin, guess how the body maintains homeostasis.  Yes, it THICKENS it!!  The body does not improve health through over-the-counter and prescription drugs!

Is a Fever Good?

Childhood fevers can be frightening, mostly because they are misunderstood.  A fever by definition is an increase in body temperature above the “normal range.”  The unfortunate thing is “normal” can vary from person to person.  Medical texts differ in their definition of the highest “normal” body temperature, which can range from 98.2 to 100.4°F.

There are several causes of fever, but most commonly associated with dozens of different viruses, bacteria and parasites that cause upper respiratory infections, pneumonia, diarrhea, and urinary tract infections.

When infectious organisms invade the body, the body activates the innate immune responses.  These substances signal a part of the brain called the hypothalamus to raise the body’s thermostat, which in turn leads to chills and shivering to increase the metabolic rate.

A fever is the body’s natural defense to invaders!  A fever is a good thing!

When is a fever dangerous?
A fever can only cause harm when the temperature is 104 °F or more for longer than 4 days.  A fever under that temperature in the absence of extreme dehydration, being locked in a hot closed automobile or a head injury is a safe body reaction.

A fever is a symptom of the body fighting something off, similar to vomiting or having diarrhea.  Those are ways for the body to get rid of and excrete things that should not be in the body.

Benefits of a fever at various degrees?
102°F – Interferon-proteins are produced that prevent viral replication and inhibit cancer cells.
103°F – All nutrition is stored to spleen to starve bacteria.
104°F – Virus’s are killed.

The Cost of Getting Well and Staying Well

Clearly with what is happening in the world today financially, not only do we need to be paying attention to where our money is going, we need to be an expert at it.  Yahoo Finance recently reported that 62% of the bankruptcies occurring in the United States were NOT from the housing market or the stock market.  62% of the bankruptcies were from medical expenses.  The shocking fact is 78% of those people bankrupted by medicine actually had insurance coverage!!

Every 30 seconds in the United States, someone files for bankruptcy in the aftermath of a serious health problem.  Even in the midst of a housing crisis more than 25% of them said the reason they cannot pay the mortgage was due to medical debt.  1.5 million families lose their home to foreclosure each year due to unaffordable medical bills, not an unaffordable mortgage.

It is clear that our current health care model does not work.  People are not physically or emotionally well.  Oddly, rather than figuring out a model that does work, the focus has been on, “How do we pay for it?”

The Boston Herald reported in 2008, a study from Fidelity Bank, that showed a couple needs $225,000 in CASH OUT OF POCKET – TO COVER WHAT MEDICARE/BLUE CROSS/BLUE SHIELD WON’T PAY to cover medical expenses after retirement and this number, which was $215,000 in 2007, is going up at a rate of 4.7% a year!!

At that rate, 4.7% a year, in 12 years (2020), you will need approximately $400,000 in cash at retirement to pay medical costs not covered by insurance or Medicare.  If Medicare fades out as many are predicting, you’ll need far, far more then that (Depending on your condition, possibly several times that).

For example – Cancer treatment drugs range from $4 – $14,000/month and cost as much as $25,000/month.  Much of this is out of pocket.  It’s not uncommon for someone to pay $1-300,000 out of pocket for cancer treatments.  Tragically, with limited benefit to these treatments – end their life in misery and death anyway – or even because of the treatments.

These costs only tell a small part of the financial story.  Each day, month, and year you’re alive but can’t work due to illness or treatment can add up to 100s of thousands depending on your salary.  PLUS – they now give each year you die early before life expectancy a value of $150,000.  So someone that dies in their 50s or 60s loses well over 1 million dollars.

THE REAL TOLL of course isn’t the money.  In addition to being out 100s of thousands, if not millions, life ends both in quantity and quality before God intended.
